A new scheme to encourage drivers to scrap their old car for new has been introduced by the Government so we've got some fantastic new offers.
From mid-May, owners of cars that are more than 10 years old can scrap them and get £2,000 towards buying a new one. The £300 million scheme was confirmed in Alistair Darling’s Budget on 22nd April; the Government will give customers £1,000 when they scrap their old vehicle – which must have been registered before 31st July 1999. Manufacturers will provide a £1,000 discount.
Peugeot topped European sales of low emission vehicles in 2008, according to new figures.
One in every six new vehicles sold in Europe and the UK with emissions of less than 121g/km of CO2 was a Peugeot. And the findings also show that in the UK, the Peugeot 107 was the best-selling low CO2 vehicle in the sub-111g/km sector. All of which demonstrates Peugeot’s commitment to lowering emissions.
Peugeot has 36 vehicles with CO2 emissions below 121g/km. It also has the Blue Lion standard which covers all cars with emissions sub-131g/km.
Christian Stein, Marketing Director at Peugeot in the UK, says: ‘Peugeot has long held a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles and these sales statistics for 2008 show us to be at the very top as the leading low CO2 car company, both in the UK and across Europe.’
Sales of sub-121g/km vehicles also saw the 107 joined by the 207 and 308, placed fifth and ninth place, placing Peugeot firmly at the top of this combined category with 18.6% of all sub-121g/km cars sold.
Mr Stein adds: ‘Peugeot cars, identified to customers through its Blue Lion standards is clearly the most popular brand for economical and low CO2 vehicles throughout Europe. We are delighted to be comprehensively leading the ‘green race’ with the benefit of lower running costs for our customers.’
Peugeot offers drivers a wide choice when looking to make an environmentally conscious decision. The benefits of choosing a low CO2 car mean that it is economical too, be it the 107 city car with emissions of just 106g/km or the five-door 308 family hatchback, which in 1.6-litre HDi 90 guise has CO2 emissions of just 120g/km.
