Double success for Kia at What Car? Awards
Added: 15 January 2020
Kia collected two prizes at the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2020. The Kia Picanto was recognised with the Best Value Car award, while the e-Niro crossover won Best Small Electric Car for more than £35,000.
This is the third time in three years that the Picanto has been honoured by What Car? The Best Value Car for 2020 was also named Best City Car in 2018 and 2019.
This year’s winning model was the Picanto ‘3’ trim, which has a punchy 1.25-litre petrol engine and is fitted with Kia’s Intelligent Stop & Go stop/start system that reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
“The Picanto has been our favourite city car since 2017,” said the What Car? expert judging panel, “and it continues to set the standard thanks to its mix of space, performance, comfort and value for money.
“Inside, there’s space for four 6-foot-tall adults, while the 1.25-litre engine is gutsy enough for both motorway and town use. The accurate steering and well-damped ride also impress, and you get the reassurance of the longest warranty on the market.”
Kia offers a seven-year/100,000 mile warranty package on every new car.
The Picanto ‘3’ is also equipped with Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, 7-inch “floating” infotainment touchscreen, Satellite Navigation, DAB and Reversing Camera with Dynamic Guidelines.
Last year’s overall What Car? Car of the Year, the Kia e-Niro, is this year’s Best Small Electric car over £35,000. The all-electric, zero emissions Crossover picked up a vast haul of awards in 2019 and has carried on its spectacular form into 2020.
“The e-Niro,” which is capable of travelling 282 miles from a single charge, “remains one of the best electric cars on sale,” commented the What Car? judges.
“It rides more comfortably than its rivals, staying more composed through corners. Plus, the acceleration off the line is serious and motorway journeys are made a breeze thanks to its 201bhp electric motor.”
Steve Hicks, Sales Director at Kia Motors (UK), added: “The What Car? Awards are a highly recognised and influential, so we are delighted to be rewarded once again.
“The Picanto has always been a strong competitor in the value car market and continues to deliver what customers want.
“The e-Niro is a staple in the developing EV market and offers excellent range and levels of specification seen in premium vehicles. Throughout 2020, you’ll see many more on UK roads due to the vastly increased supply.”
