Kia collected two prizes at the first ever What Car? Electric Car Awards. The e-Niro, the 2019 What Car? Car of the Year, was named Best Electric Small SUV, while the Niro PHEV picked up the Best Hybrid Small SUV award.
With an outstanding 282-mile driving range from a single charge, the zero-emissions e-Niro was praised by the What Car? judges for having the “best blend of space, usability and affordability.”
The Niro PHEV, the plug-in hybrid member of the Niro family, can achieve a fantastic 201.8mpg. Lauded for its good value-for-money, long list of standard equipment and interior quality, the Niro PHEV delivers the high-efficiency and low running costs of a petrol-electric car with the style, practicality, and desirability of a compact crossover.
“Since the staggered introduction of the Niro family in 2016, we had high hopes that it would meet a varied range of customers demands,” commented Paul Philpott, CEO and President of Kia Motors UK. “Four years later and we see our Niro hero not only selling beyond expectation via our 186-strong dealer network, but also each member of the family being highlighted my multiple awards entities and most recently the inaugural What Car? Electric Car Awards, is a real honour.”
Kia was also represented at the Awards by the all-electric Soul EV, XCeed PHEV, and Ceed Sportswagon PHEV, that were all shortlisted for prizes.
