Added: 19 February 2019
The all-new Suzuki Jimny has made not one, but three separate semi-final stages in the 2019 World Car Awards.
The Jimny was relaunched in Chapelhouse Suzuki dealerships in Southport, St Helens, Warrington, Wigan and Preston at the start of 2019.
The compact SUV, which starts at just £15,499, progressed into the final five for ‘World Urban Car’ and ‘World Car Design’, it is sitting in the Top Ten that will be considered for the prestigious ‘World Car of the Year’.
Mike Rutherford, World Car Awards Programme Juror, Executive Director and co-Chairman, said of the new Jimny: “Suzuki has again seen off many rival manufacturers from all corners of the globe to become a 2019 World Car finalist.
“This is a company that produces some of the finest small cars on the market, and it may yet go on to lift a trophy-or-three at the New York International Motor Show in April.”
A further round of judging is yet to take place, to whittle the finalists down to a shortlist for each category, which will be announced at the World Car of the Year show in Geneva on 5th March. The judging panel consists of more than 80 automotive industry journalists from around the world.
The Jimny’s achievement at the World Car Awards comes hot on the tail of Top Three successes Suzuki Ignis small SUV and the Swift Supermini, in 2017 and 2018 respectively, in the World Urban Car category.
The new Jimny offers the latest in safety technology for both on-and-off-road adventures. Dual Sensor Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning and Weaving Alert all come as standard. Air conditioning, Automatics Headlights with High Beam Assist, front foglamps, Bluetooth and DAB are all fitted at no extra cost.
