Kia redefines car technology with Over-the-Air Software

The brand new Kia EV9 will be the first electric car in the Kia range to offer customers on-demand features and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

The EV9, which is set to hit UK showrooms in the second half of 2023, is poised to lead the charge into a new era of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs).

One of the most notable breakthroughs for the EV9 is its expanded OTA software update capability. This allows for updating of not just the vehicle's core components, but also its convenience features.

The newly launched Kia Connect Store will enable EV9 drivers to update their vehicle anytime and anywhere. This includes features such as Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 and Lighting Pattern.

Lighting Pattern provides five different display modes of the two clusters of small cube lamps on the front grille. Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 enables the driver to park and exit the EV9 remotely.

These exciting new innovations will be possible through wireless communication between the cloud server and the vehicle, enabling control unit software updates without customers having to visit a Kia service centre.

A full range of OTA updates will become available when the Kia Connect Store expands. This will offer a wider choice of digital products, including entertainment, gaming and sound, that allows Kia customers to express their individuality.

Kia has also demonstrated the exceptional battery power of the EV9 with a video demonstrating its Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature. The V2L feature turns your EV9 into its very own mobile power source.

Kia's first seven-seat electric vehicle is seen towing a large futuristic caravan. The V2L feature uses the EV9's powerful 99.8kWh battery to directly power a series of luxuries inside and out of the mobile home.

The flat Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) allows for a large cabin with three rows of seats. The EV9 provides lounge-style comfort for all passengers and promises an electric driving range of up to 336 miles.

The Kia EV9 electric SUV will come as a Rear Wheel Drive 'Long Range' and All Wheel Drive 'Performance' model. There's also a 'Standard' RWD model available with a 76.1kWh battery.
