The MG Cyberster - Return of the Legend
The MG Cyberster will be the first all-electric sportscar in the MG family. Though there isn't a specific release date yet, it is rumoured that the release will be in time to celebrate MG's centenary in 2024.
Since being acquired by SAIC, MG has been working hard to establish itself as a value-oriented, well-equipped and safe car brand and it has been making waves in the EV world with cars like the MG5 EV estate, the MG ZS EV, MG's all-electric crossover and the brand new MG4 EV, the fully electric hatchback with up to 281 miles range.
The next step in MG's portfolio is the two-door, two-seater, all-electric Cyberster that is rumoured to boast an 800km (500 miles) range and deliver 0-62mph in less than three seconds!

From Concept to Production
The Cyberster concept saw a steeply sloping roof, a large, striking front grille and headlights positioned above the grille that open when turned on. Though these features seemed to have been lost between the concept and the production model, other features remain.
The exterior design sees scissor doors, striking lines, a convertible fabric roof and arrow-shaped, rear lighting. The production car also sits higher than the original concept, the wheels are smaller and chunkier, and the headlights and front grille are more small and subtle, most likely to make space for sensors.
Not much has been revealed about the interior design of the Cyberster. The concept saw a driver-centric design with a separate driver and passenger cockpit with floating head restraints. Though the head restraints appear to be all but gone in the production teaser video, the red leather remains along with the driver screen, separate infotainment centre and the yoke steering wheel.
There is yet to be any information released on the performance specification of the MG Cyberster but you can be sure that it is eagerly anticipated.
Carl Gotham, Director of SAIC Design Advanced London, said: “The Cyberster is a bold statement that looks strongly into MG's future, touching on our heritage but more importantly building on our technology and advanced design.

The MG Cyberster will be the halo car for MG as they look back to their heritage as sports car developers.
“Sports cars are the lifeblood of the MG DNA, and the Cyberster is a hugely exciting concept for us,” said Gotham, suggesting that now MG has established itself with mainstream cars, it can afford to explore other segments.
The MG Cyberster is rumoured to release in both left and right-hand drive along with the potential release of another all-EV. Expected to be another SUV to fulfil the wants of its audience, both cars would join the MG4 EV, MG5 EV and the ZS EV in the MG all-electric line-up, all of which come with the MG 7- year warranty as standard!
