All-new Kia Niro takes trio of awards

The all-new Kia Niro has bagged a hat-trick of awards at the 2023 Carbuyer Car of the Year Awards, including being named the publication's overall 'Car of the Year'.

Kia's flagship hatchback was also named 'Best Small Family Car' and 'Best Hybrid'. It is the second Kia model in three years to be named Carbuyer's Car of the Year, after the seven-seat Sorento scooped the prize back in 2021.

The award-winning all-new Niro was launched in summer 2022 with the option of fully electric driving for the first time, along with the self-charging hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.

The Kia Niro EV can achieve an outstanding driving distance of 285 miles from a single charge to quell any range anxiety - all with zero emissions.

The Niro HEV and PHEV versions are eco-friendly too, with low co2 emissions and low running costs, and all come with Kia's industry-leading 7-year warranty as standard.

The Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) functionality of the Niro EV even allows it to become a portable energy source wherever you are.

When fully charged, the Niro EV offers 3kw of power for the V2D feature, meaning you can power electronics when camping in a remote location or charge your laptop on a long trip. Even plug in the hoover when cleaning up after a messy journey with a four-legged friend.

Every car on the UK market is assessed across several different categories for the Carbuyer Car of the Year Awards, which goes to show how much esteem the overall winner is held in.

Carbuyer website editor Richard Ingram spoke about the all-new Niro's fantastic feat: “Quite appropriately, the latest Kia Niro scoops not one, but three titles at the 2023 Awards. Our favourite small family car, our top hybrid, and, of course, our overall Car of the Year.

“The fabulous new Niro builds on everything we loved about the old one, but with sharper styling, and a cutting-edge interior. It remains a practical, efficient, and easy to drive family car, with a powertrain to suit all buyers.”

Paul Philpott, Kia UK Limited President and CEO, added: “To be named Carbuyer's overall Car of the Year, and topping two other categories, just months after its UK launch, is a remarkable achievement - and something we, and our nationwide dealer partners, take huge pride from.”
