Has MG Just Launched the Best Value Electric Car of 2026?
For the last few years, MG has been an avid contender in the world of electric cars. The original MG4 EV has now been joined in the market by its 'sensible sibling' that trades a sharp-edged, performance-heavy drive for an ultra-compact city car: The MG4 EV Urban.
The Urban re-invents what a city EV should be by balancing price, space and style.

The first thing you'll notice is that the Urban has ditched the sharp, angular nose of the standard MG4 EV and elected for a softer, curvier look like that of the MGS5 EV. While it's large enough to maintain a strong road presence, it's compact enough for urban commuting and tight city parking - made significantly easier with the 360-degree HD camera*.
The original MG4 EV hatchback was limited on rear space, whereas the Urban disguises itself as a proper mid-size SUV. It offers a massive 577 litre boot space (split between a 479L main bay and a clever 98L 'hidden' compartment) as a result of the E3 platform that shifts the motor to the front end. To put that into perspective, it's significantly larger than a Volkswagen Golf, and cheaper too. In true 'urban' style, it is an EV that can actually handle a full family shop and a buggy simultaneously.

See MoreThe MG4 EV Urban has style equipped with keyless entry, ambient lighting, a six-speaker audio system*, wireless phone charging pad*, heated seats and a heated steering wheel*; and for a price that still undercuts its rivals. Its premium functionality boasts a 12.8 inch HD touchscreen set with DAB radio and wireless phone compatibility (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), but with a crucial change; physical buttons have returned. A massive win for convenience and driver safety means that climate and volume are now adjustable without the need for sub-menus.
The Urban will feature a 43kWh battery for the Standard Range, offering up to 201 miles of range on a full charge, making it the ideal city dweller, whereas the Long Range will come with a 54kWh battery offering 258 miles of range. A heat pump comes as standard to ensure that those winter months don't compromise your range. Charge time takes as little as 28 minutes to climb from 10-80% on a rapid charger - roughly enough time to grab a coffee and a sandwich.

The five driving modes, including sport, adapt to your rhythm as and when you feel like, with regenerative braking to capture your energy while slowing down. The one-pedal driving option makes city driving a breeze, and the Front Wheel Drive keeps things predictable and planted.
Backed by a 7-year warranty, the MG4 EV Urban is sure to climb the charts for the best 'real life' EV on the market - reinforced by its 5-star NCAP rating. If you're looking for a sensible drive as well as a sensible price tag, the MG4 EV Urban is a firm contender.
