Kia dominates the Driver Power 2023 list

Kia has dominated the 2023 Auto Express Driver Power list of cars that are the best to own in the UK. There were three Kia cars in the top 10, and no less than nine Kias ranked in the top 30.

The Kia Sorento was placed 2nd overall, which is a massive achievement, and was joined in the top 10 by the Kia EV6 (7th) and the Kia Ceed (10th).

The Sorento is Kia's flagship seven-seat SUV and is known for its excellent combination of luxury and practicality. It also topped the 'Best Mid-Large SUV' individual category in the Auto Express survey.

The Sorento is available with a trio of powertrain options, including diesel, Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid

The diesel model comes with a 2.2-litre engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Whereas both electrified versions have a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 6-speed automatic transmission.

As the Driver Power list is made up from the owners' experiences, Sorento driver Duncan Herries gave his thoughts to Auto Express. “It will sit at 70mph, fully loaded with four adults and a teenager, plus a load of suitcases, all the way to Manchester [from Scotland] and back on a full tank of fuel,” he said.

“It's very functional and well equipped - it's the KX-4 so I've got everything - and the boot easily swallows five large suitcases.”

The EV6 is Kia's high performance electric crossover and was the highest ranked electric vehicle in the survey. It has won high acclaim from drivers and motoring industry experts alike since its launch in 2021. It was recently named as the AutoTrader 'Best New Car of the Year' 2023.

Like the Sorento, the EV6 also topped an individual category, being named 'Best Family Car'.

The Driver Power survey is made up by car owners reporting back to the motoring publication on how satisfied they are with their car that they've bought in the last two years.

The cars are rated on a multitude of key factors, including how comfortable they are to sit in, how fast they accelerate, how the car handles and their reliability.

Over 400,000 pieces of individual data is collated to analyse just which cars are the best out there to own and drive.
