Kia named Manufacturer of the Year

Kia has been named 'Manufacturer of the Year' at the 2022 TopGear.com Awards.

The award caps off a great end to what has been an excellent 12 months for Kia. It saw the successful launch of the Sportage and the all-new Niro in the spring and summer respectively.

So successful, in fact, that they are the two most popular Kia models in the UK.

Jack Rix, Editor of BBC Top Gear Magazine, commented: “Kia's recent form is remarkable. Despite gale force headwinds, the upward trajectory simply shows no sign of abating. In fact, it's getting braver.

“The latest Sportage is a superior family crossover to the genre-defining Nissan Qashqai, the new Niro looks a bit bonkers, and offers hybrid or electric versions and Kia seems to be sticking the landing when it comes to e-transition.

“The EV6 GT offers a 577bhp version with tyre-delaminating drift mode to tickle our caveman brain's pickle.”

Kia Sportage

The ever-popular Sportage SUV went hybrid for the first time this year. Choose from Mild Hybrid, Hybrid Electric or Plug-in Hybrid. Regular petrol and diesel engines are also available.

Kia Niro

The all-new Niro has hoovered up awards this year. The fully electric Niro EV has a driving range of up to 285 miles from a single charge. Also available in Electric Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid that will give you excellent fuel economy.

Kia EV6 GT

Quite simply, the EV6 GT is a beast. 21-inch alloy wheels, 577bhp and ultra-fast charging, it's an electric powerhouse that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved with a large electric crossover.

Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK Limited, added: “2022 has been a fantastic year for Kia. Both the all-new Sportage and Niro have contributed to record year-to-date sales for Kia in the UK. The introduction of the EV6 GT is a watershed moment for the brand, as we extend our electrification leadership into the high-performance arena.

“Being named TopGear.com's 'Manufacturer of the Year' caps off a remarkable year for us and sets us up for a very exciting 2023.”

Kia plans to launch two electrified vehicles per year globally, with many of those expected to reach the UK market.

2023 will see the introduction of the ground-breaking new Kia EV9, which will represent the pinnacle of what is possible with a fully electric family car. We took a sneak peak of the brand new EV9 earlier this year and you can read all about it here.
