MG posts record sales figures for first quarter of 2023

MG has announced record sales results for the first three months of 2023. MG registered 20,679 new cars in the first quarter of this year, marking a huge 49.4% increase on the same period in 2022. 

New data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has MG as the second-best selling brand for electric vehicles in the UK. The brand's market share for EVs now stands at an impressive 9.4%, firmly positioning MG as one of the nation's fastest growing electric car brands. 

The MG4 EV is also second on this list of the best-selling new electric vehicles so far in 2023. Over 5,200 units of the multi-award winning MG4 EV have been registered so far this year in the UK.

The stylish electric hot hatch has been met with almost universal praise. Built on MG's Modular Scalable Platform, the MG4 continues to offer customers style, practicality, and outstanding value for money. 

The MG4 EV is now well into double figures for major motoring awards since its launch back in September 2022, having most recently been named 'Overall Car of the Year' at the 2023 UK Car of the Year (UKCOTY) Awards, and 'EV Breakthrough of the Year' at the Fleet News Awards. 

UKCOTY head judge and founder John Challen said: “The MG4 proves that electric cars can be affordable, practical and appeal to all areas of the automotive market. Fully charged, it offers more than enough miles for the vast majority of, while the design and driving dynamics tick two other important boxes for consumers. A deserved winner for the electric future.” 

Meanwhile The Fleet News expert judging panel commented: “MG is changing the game in the electric vehicle sector by bringing down the entry level price point with usable real-world range. Yet the MG4 is anything but entry level - drivers love it and evangelise about their experiences, making the car a viable alternative to true premium rivals.”  

The MG4 EV starts at just £26,995 and offers over 300 miles of worry-free electric driving.

The new SMMT figures also say that MG sold 12,232 in March 2023 alone - signalling the increasing popularity of MG's range of affordable electric, petrol, and plug-in hybrid cars. 

The MG Motor UK range currently consists of seven models, four of which are electrified - the MG4 EV, MG5 EV, MG ZS EV, and the MG HS PHEV. Every new car in the MG line-up is supported by MG's 7-year/80,000-mile warranty plan.
